Bridezilla is such an ugly term isn’t it?
Most of the time, I just feel bad for the women who have become a wedding monster because I know what they’re going through…to be clear, I was not a bridezilla. My friends have told me that I was pleasant to deal with, and I’m pretty sure they’re telling me the truth. At least 85% sure. The thing is there were definitely times the stress overwhelmed me. Being engaged, as beautiful as it is, is a time when it seems like every spare thought goes toward something wedding related; How many people? How much money? Elope? Trust me, all of that can get to a girl!
THAT being said, there is a difference between being stressed out and being selfish, and unkind to those around you who are there to help you. Primarily this engagement should be a time of joy – it’s also an incredibly exciting time, filled with family, friends and fun events meant to celebrate love and the beginning of your new journey! So I really appreciate brides who keep this at the forefront of their planning.
My friend Claire could be the poster girl for selfless, joyful and easygoing brides. I was trying to think of a way to describe Claire as a person and the only word that comes to mind is "lovely" – because that’s what she is - a genuinely kind hearted person who is easy to talk to, easy to get to know and easy to love. I mean even when she’s in a bad mood, she’s still pretty happy and I’m certain that if we were in a movie, birds would be dressing her in the morning!
So it was really wonderful to be asked to be part of the bridal party for Claire’s upcoming wedding. Planning all of her events alongside her oldest friend, and her sisters. A few weekends ago we had Claire’s Bridal Shower, it was a small and rustic themed shower and we made sure to have some of Claire’s favourite foods, games about the happy couple and of course lots of happy well wishers!
It was a fun gathering and Claire received some pretty awesome gifts – she obviously liked mine the best though…right? As fun as the shower was, I’m looking forward to getting in a little bit more trouble for her bachelorette...although, I may withhold some of those photos.
