I like wearing nail polish. I just don't like buying, applying or removing it. Most of the time I go without wearing any at all because I just can't be bothered to go through the hassle - i mean this is the routine we're told you're supposed to follow;
- clean, file and shape nails
- apply base coat, wait 1 minute
- apply thin layer of polish, wait 2-5 min
- apply second coat, wait 2-5 min
- apply top coat, wait 5-10 minutes before you do anything with your hand
So by the time this is done you've spent a minimum of 30 minutes doing your nails (and lets be honest its never the minimum). Now, imagine, after all that work - a stray hair happens to fly right into your still wet nails or that 35 later it still hasn't fully dried and you scrape your nail on something. All that work, ruined.
I know, I'm being overly dramatic about the whole thing, but my point is just that I do not have the patience for it, and nothing makes me angrier when my nails chip a day or less later. So my solution is mostly to avoid doing them at all.
That is - until I found this heavenly stuff! You guys, seriously its the best.
Ok, first - I am obsessed with the colours. I got a deep wine colour called Nic and a purple/blue sparkly one called Sera which I love, but there are tonnes to choose from.
The application of the polish is pretty standard (see above) the polish itself comes out slightly thick, so thin layers are really recommended, but you can also do just one thicker coat which is what I did with the wine colour.
The brush could be better - its pretty much the same as most drugstore brushes. They do sell a separate wand to make the process easier, (annoying and an obvious cash-grab) but I don't think you really need it anyway. The major difference is that I found the drying time to be much faster, I waited a minute in between coats and it was fine. I also used the Julep Oxygen Performance Top Coat and the drying time was really quick, about 2 minutes before I felt comfortable moving my hands and less than 10 before they felt completely solid.
Julep began specifically as a nail parlour and has evolved to develop other makeup as well. You can find the nail polish in places like Sephora and also their online site which is continuing their Cyber Monday sale for the next 10 hours. 50% off everything, and most of the nail polishes have already been reduced! Also free shipping right now, so there is no better time to buy!
SO here's the thing though - I researched Julep a little bit and learned that it has some pretty negative reviews out there. They have a subscription program that many people don't seem to enjoy and there were comments about the polish smelling bad and taking a long time to dry.
I am incredibly surprised by these reviews because I really reeaaally love this stuff. On top of how much easier the process was, I have never had a polish last me as long as this one. I cleaned my house, washed dishes etc. for 3 days without the tiniest sign of wear. Even after a week it was only starting to look bad. SO, I stand by my opinion that its worth a shot, especially now with such huge savings. So if you want to check them out, go here.
Have you tried Julep before? What did you think?
