Peter actually proposed in November, not December... Actually, all of the most important moments in our relationship happened in the winter. We met, became a couple, got engaged, got married and moved into our first home all in November/December. Next year we may be moving into our second home at the same time - that's if we're lucky, there may be a delay which I refuse to think about right now.
Anyway, as promised here is the second post from The White Dress Formula detailing how our proposal happened. It was pretty amazing.
You know how I met Peter, but did you know that our relationship was sort of landmarked by different movies and tv shows?
What I mean by that is that, we were both very much into television shows, and I was very into movies and we spent a large part of the beginning of our relationship sharing each others different likes and dislikes in the film/TV industry. To be honest I felt it was my duty in a way, this man had never watched any of the Godfather movies, Back to the Future movies, Braveheart, etc etc.
It started with him making me watch Prison Break. I had no interest or desire to watch it, but it was a way for us to spend some time together. In return I made him watch movie after movie, everything from Kill Bill to Hot Rod to Sleepless in Seattle. (that was kind of mean, I know).
Anyway, it was this relationship with movies and tv that Peter thought about when he proposed.
It was a Wednesday afternoon, and I had no plans to see him, I was working until 7, him until 9 and I had big plans to go home and wash clothes. But I missed him, so around 6 pm I messaged him to see if he could leave early that day.
I fully expected the “No. I cant, I need to be here” line, instead he instantly replied that he would leave but only if we had a “date” night. Of course I agreed and he was at my work in about 30 minutes (in retrospect that alone should’ve given it away)
So he picked me up and took me home to get into something more appropriate for a special evening out (I'm so glad he didn't want me to be in a Best Buy uniform when he proposed) he took me to the keg for dinner and we talked and had fun - and I had no idea!
Then we went to rent a movie, a pretty usual occurrence for us, he said I could pick anything I wanted, *side note- I NEVER get to do that, we usually have to debate the options before we choose something and one of us leaves slightly grumpy about the outcome. That’s just the routine. Anyway taking advantage of this opportunity I chose Mr. Bean. That’s right, the one thing I can never get Peter to watch. Don't judge me.
We went back to his place and I got comfy in the usual location on the couch. He went up and put in the movie, or so I thought.
Something else started playing, that was like a movie trailer. I’d like to show it to you, but before you watch I would like to narrate my mental process throughout the whole thing. You may have to re-watch to get the full effect.
*Trailer starts - HBO logo appears
Me: Mr. Bean isn’t HBO
Announcer : In a world where questions need answers and answers need questions
Me: ok, he’s showing me something him and Adam worked on, these guys are always making fun videos together! ... Wow Adams voice sure sounds different
Announcer: This winter season brace yourself
Me: why is Peters heart beating so fast? I can feel it over on the next seat cushion
Announcer: 2009's Kick in the ass
Me: what? I’m so confused by this video.
Announcer: What you are about to hear will be the most important moment
Me: Wait …. is this what I think it is… na it can’t be ... but maybe?
Announcer: Sandy Beaches (a cute little saying we have to describe that we love each other more than the number of grains of sand on a beach - cue gag noises now)
Me: ………………..(complete snow up there)………
Peter: Theres is one thing I wanted to ask you though
Me: Ohh Myyy Godd
Yep, that pretty much how it went. Peter proceeded to get down on one knee and pull out a beautiful engagement ring, and I think the only thing I said for the first minute was Oh my God, followed with a “yes, of course”. It was perfect.
So thoughtful and creative, after I said yes, he presented me with artwork of the two of us that he had custom made, he knows me well. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed these little flashbacks!
