This past weekend we had a baby shower for one of my very best friends. In all honesty Donna is more like a sister to me than a friend, the only person outside of my husband and immediate family who knows as much about me – including all the really annoying things. She’s a really selfless friend and person, so when it came time to celebrate her little bundle I wanted to make sure it was something she would love. Together with her sisters in law and another long time friend - we have been planning and organizing everything over the last few months.
Sometimes working in groups is difficult – especially for me, because I tend to have control issues. The word bossy was thrown around a lot when I was a kid. However THIS was such a seamless experience! Everyone in the group shares the super-organizational gene I think and so we just got S**t done!
Donna’s favourite season is fall, so of course we had lots of pumpkins, apples and pretty fall décor. We were able to use her mother in laws home, which saved us a lot of money, and made the event feel a lot more comfortable and cozy.
Our food was AMAZING if I do say so myself, we had delicious Pulled Pork Sliders, Mac & Cheese, Butternut Squash Soup and more.
The cupcakes were made by Carla (sister in law) in a variety of fall colours
We used the apple cider from Spirit Tree Cider in Caledon and it was a huge hit!
We handmade most of the décor, including these fall coloured tassels, burlap sign, copper flower containers and arrangements.
Donna got lots of great gifts,, including this Mother Goose doll that actually recites entire nursery rhymes!
We had a station set up for writing fun messages on diapers, and a hand drawn Winnie the Pooh guestbook.
Lots of games where people had to get up and mingle a bit, which proved to be lots of fun! Including this Guess the celebrity daddy game.
Our favours were caramel apples that we skewered with real branches! They were super cute and actually pretty easy to make - I would only suggest you make these with LOTS of time to let the caramel set.
Everyone had a great time and most importantly Donna was happy.
But we couldn’t end the day without making the guys play the blindfolded diaper changing game, SOOOO funny to watch.
Peter was last, but I have faith that he’ll be able to do it with his eyes open when it comes time for it ;)
